BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Robyn Hattaway has two perfectly perfect reasons for throwing her hat in the ring for the job of District 5 Port Commissioner.

“I was looking for an opportunity to serve the community, as well as to preserve the community for our kids so they come back and raise their families here,” said Hattaway.

This Presbyterian pastor’s daughter has lived throughout the country in many towns in many states, so she knows from experience just how unique Brevard is. Her roots are now firmly planted on the Space Coast and they run deep, with family from Titusville to Cocoa Beach and Indian Harbour Beach.

Hattaway is adamant about preserving the community’s quality of life and she sees the Port as the area’s greatest asset.

“The Port is one of the biggest economic drivers and the future of the County and it is also the gateway to the Indian River,” she said.
“A successful Port means jobs in our community and opportunities for small business. It also means no taxes by the Port Authority.”

Port Canaveral, where more than four million cruise ship passengers embark and disembark each year, is one of the busiest ports in the world. Hattaway has pledged to keep the Port safe for tourists and residents alike.

“The Port must ensure the safety of every citizen and visitor,” she said.

Port Canaveral’s connection with the Indian River Lagoon carries significant environmental importance in the rehabilitation of the beleaguered and critically important body of water.

“The Port must be part of the solution and never add more risks,” she said.

Endorsed by Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the Canaveral Pilots Association, the Space Coast Association of Realtors and the Honorable Tom Weinberg, Hattaway is a Merritt Island small business owner and attorney.

Robyn Hattaway and her husband, radiologist Dr. Aaron Hattaway, are the parents of 15-year-old Willson and 13-year-old Davis, both students at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne.

Whiskey River, the name of the family’s rescued springer/Labrador mix, is a nod to Hattaway’s affinity for the music of Willie Nelson, and, for that matter, all country music.

Hattaway attended the University of Texas, thanks to a full scholarship, before heading to Emory University School of Law in Atlanta to receive her juris doctor degree in 2001.

She is currently the owner of Willson Hattaway Law in Merritt Island. The firm offers comprehensive legal guidance and advice for a variety of businesses and nonprofits.

Should she get elected Port Commissioner, Hattaway plans to scale back on her law practice.

“I was the breadwinner for many years while my husband was going through medical school and residency training, and we are now in a position where I can step back to concentrate on the Port,” she said.

However, nonprofits hold a place near and dear to her heart, and Hattaway plans to continue her association with groups such as LEAD Brevard.

“I encourage all young professionals to participate in this organization,” she said.

She was the board president for Literacy for Adults in Brevard from 2015 to 2016. The organization teaches adults to read so they can achieve their full potential with their families, jobs and community.

Her interest in nonprofits encompasses the scope of community services. Brevard County Public Schools presented Hattaway with the Silver Apple Award in 2011 and 2013 and the Super Apple Award in 2012, 2014 and 2015 for volunteer efforts that included promoting education about the Constitution to seventh graders at West Melbourne Middle School and serving as legal counsel for the School Advisory Council of R. L. Stevenson Elementary School of the Arts in Merritt Island.

“I help as much as I can when I am needed,” said Hattaway.
