Oceania Cruises’ Regatta Loses Power Near Honolulu

Oceania Cruises’ Regatta was forced to return to Honolulu, Hawaii, Wednesday after the ship experienced a failure of its power generation plant.

All guests and crew are safe and accounted for, Oceania said, and the power plant has since been restored and all guest services are fully functioning. The ship returned to Honolulu in order to effect a technical assessment.

The power loss occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. local time Wednesday near Honolulu, while the Regatta was approximately 20 miles off the coasts of Oahu. The ship was scheduled to arrive back in the city at 1 p.m. local time.

Oceania Cruises said that it would provide further updates as additional details become available.

The Regatta underwent a major renovation project in 2014. The ship has a capacity of 684 guests at double occupancy, with a guest to staff ratio of 1.71 to 1. Design touches include teak decks, custom stone and tile work and neo-classical furnishings in the ship’s lounges, suites and staterooms. Other amenities range from four open-seating restaurants to eight lounges and bars, a casino and a fitness center and spa. Nearly 70 percent of the ship’s suites and staterooms have private verandas. It is currently sailing a number of itineraries in Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
