Letter of the Day: Oil a necessary part of our world

Letter to the editor from Ed Onishenko

There’s been a lot of discussion over the years about building oil pipelines across our nation and rightfully so. It has been in the news recently, in regard to our economy and job creation.

Yes, the oil companies have a responsibility to protect our environment as they should. The environmentalists should have their say in our society as well.

But without oil, there would be no cars running, no buses, no semis delivering goods across our land. No planes flying, no cruise ships, no farmers working the land to feed the world, no trains, no recreation vehicles, no paved roads, and no over 1,500 manufactured household goods.

Yes, it’s time we walked away from fossil fuels and moved on to new technology. But that’s a long way down the road. So what do we do?

One other note: how do the environmentalists get from point A to point B, is it by horse and buggy? I don’t think so.

Why don’t we join together to make this planet a cleaner and safer place before it’s too late? Oil or no oil.
