PRESS RELEASE – Signing Ceremony of the Project for the Improvement of the Water Supply System in Aufaga Village Under JAPAN’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR GRASS-ROOTS HUMAN SECURITY PROJECTS (GGP)
SAMOA, September 12 - The Government of Japan through its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP), is pleased to announce the signing of a Grant Agreement with the Aufaga Village Water Committee to secure funding for a vital water supply project.
The signing ceremony was held earlier today (12 September) in the presence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Mr. SENTA Keisuke and representatives from the Aufaga Village Water Committee and the Independent Water Schemes Association (IWSA).
A grant of up to USD119,680 (approximately SAT 319,000) will assist the water committee in constructing of a new 100,000litre water storage tank, installing of a security fence around the tank, and repairing of the water intake system. As a registered member of the IWSA, Aufaga village has entrusted the non-governmental organization with the successful implementation and sustainability of the project.
The project will directly benefit 466 residents of Aufaga village, including 100 households, a primary school, a preschool and a beach resort. It addresses critical challenges related to limited storage capacity, water wastage and fluctuating water availability.
The Aufaga Village Water Committee, in coordination with the IWSA, has long been committed to improving water management for the community.
This project represents a continuation of their efforts to provide clean and reliable water for all residents, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the village.
The Government of Japan remains dedicated to supporting Samoa’s development goals and looks forward to working closely with the Aufaga Village Water Committee and IWSA to successfully implement this project, ensuring sustainable water management and improved quality life for all.
